Jasper felt awkward again, like he didn't know whether he could be close to her or let her have her space. He stuck his hands in his pockets and slouched, cursing himself and Neila. He should never have kissed her, not when things were going so well. But that kiss. He still felt her lips on his and it just made him want to kiss her again. Sitting on the thought, he led her into the kitchen once again and grabbed a potholder. He and Neila used to have these late night dinners after stair surfing so he knew where the food would be. It was one of the best nights in his life when she introduced him to it.
The oven was warm, not hot, but he used every precaution anyway, because you just never knew. He set the plate down in front of Penny, who still wouldn't meet his eye. He sighed and got them both bottles of water from the fridge and forks. He dug into his rice, washing it down with the water and made a mental note to compliment Stefan. It almost tasted like real Chinese fried rice. Closest he'd ever gotten outside of a Chinese restaurant. They ate in silence until he could stand it no more. "Did you not like it?" he asked her, looking at his plate.
