She was glad that he was getting to sleep. She hoped that the nap he was proposing was actually longer than that. She didn't plan to wake him up, and she could be quiet, so she hoped he'd sleep till morning. She didn't really want to read ahead in this book. It was better when he read it aloud and she didn't want to miss anything because of her misinterpreting or not understanding. When she slid off the bed to get her dictionary, she also pulled out a copy The Woman in White. She had found this book probably a year ago, and when she had started to read it then, she became very aware of how poor her reading level was. She kept it for that reason. Using it almost as a reader, she struggled with the style and the words. When she had found the dictionary not too long after that, it had seemed like a small miracle. They were her prized possessions.
Jasper was back to sleep faster than anything she had ever seen. She smiled lightly as he absently reached for her hand, taking it in hers gently so as not to wake him. She leaned against the headboard, book in her lap, turning pages with her left hand, reading slowly. Every so often she gently let go of his hand in order to look up an unknown word in the dictionary.
