Remembering How to Feel

There were many things that Penny couldn't remember the last time she's experienced. She didn't remember the last time she had slept in a bed or the last time she had eaten ice cream, but the last time she had been held she remembered very clearly. It had been 7 years ago, 2 days before her parents had died. She was 12 and had just lost her pet goldfish. Her mother had cuddled and held her until the tears had ebbed. She felt Jasper pick her up and the tears broke. She needed him and she needed to be held, so she let him hold her until the tears stopped and she began to wonder how it was she got there in the first place.

Sensing this he put her back on her feet gracefully and smoothly in a move she would have never been able to accomplish. He took her hand and she allowed him to have it. "Would you like a tour of the house? It's big, but homey. It's home." She smiled slightly at the word "home." She nodded and like an excited school boy, he started leading them around the mansion called "home."
